2018: winter school - design factory Luxor
I was invited to conduct a textile workshop as part of the winter school in Luxor with participating artists from Upper Egypt and local handicrafts people from Balady Handicraft Center Qurna.
The project was a collaboration between the Robert Bosch Cultural Manager in Upper Egypt, Yasmin Ouberri, and the association "Art from people to people" in Luxor, managed by Eiad Oraby.
My approach was, that the participants created a screen printing pattern by composing a modern hieroglyph alphabet out of drawings of every day objects that they found in the area.
We built big puppets from wood, foam and fabric, that were inspired by traditional rug puppets ("Qurna puppets"), made up names for them and dressed them with the printed fabrics.
